On the Easel

A few days in on this large tench original, establishing all the tones with a Verdaccio ( a green underpainting). The Verdaccio helps a lot when you move on to applying colour, unifying the elements and helping as a guide to enable the next layer to be applied with more confidence. This is another painting attempting to capture something of the wonderful quality of light found underwater, and a real sense of the three dimensional quality that the light seems to exaggerate as elements soften off quickly in the slightly coloured water.
