My fish images have become familiar to most British anglers through their use on the current credit card style rod licence and the Environment Agency’s advertising campaigns.  They have also featured in a number of coarse and game fishing magazines and been used on the front covers of several angling publications.

My obsession with fish and fishing began in childhood and I was a keen angler for many years, both coarse and game, before swapping my rod for a mask and snorkel and pursuing my quarry underwater, eventually adding a camera to my kit.

I have  dived and snorkelled in a growing list of British rivers including the Spey, Aberdeenshire Dee, Towy, Teifi, Wye, Severn and a host of smaller tributaries.

I also dive gravel pits where the sometimes crystal-clear waters allow a fascinating insight into the fishes’ world. You can read more about my adventures and see some of my photographs and video here:

I now live in West Wales close to the Pembrokeshire coast, and in the summer months frequently dive in search of  my favourite marine species, the sea bass.

All these observations constantly fire the imagination and when I finally settle down to some work in the studio I try to capture the essence of my experiences with oil on canvas. Many of these works, both past and present, as well as my personal observations on fishing, diving  painting, can be seen in my richly illustrated book “Beneath the Surface” published by the Langford Press.

My work sells in galleries throughout the UK and from our on-line gallery at David Miller Art. I also have a growing international reputation, selling work both in Europe and the US.

I am also passionate about sea-birds and waders. The Pembrokeshire coast is a rich source of inspiration in the summer months with bustling colonies of guillemots, puffins and gannets near at hand.  Skomer island is a real favourite as this is one of the few places I have got close to auks underwater as well as on land. In the winter you will quite often find me on the local estuaries, particularly the Towy and the Taf.  I’m a prolific hide builder and spend a great deal of time in the cold and dark waiting for the birds to appear on the tide line, but it is well worth it given the huge flocks of waders that are attracted to the Welsh coast at this time of year.
