On the Easel

As usual in the Summer the studio is relatively quiet as I make the most of the good weather. This entails either sitting in the garden (!), working at the allotment or diving/snorkelling to gather reference and inspiration. Seeing the wildlife in its own world is at the heart of my work, even though, because of the nature of the underwater subjects, I do have to work with the aid of photographs. This last couple of weeks have seen my first Skomer Island trips of the year, and as ever this magical place has offered plenty of inspiration. This has led directly to another couple of snorkelling puffin paintings, one of which is seen here in progress. The completed painting will be available from the website in due course.
